Lighting is more than just a functional aspect of our surroundings; it has the power to create ambiance, evoke emotions, and transform spaces. With Fiction, Baharikhahi and Mahmoudi have taken lighting design to a whole new level by infusing it with a captivating story and elements inspired by the natural world.
The main inspiration behind Fiction comes from ancient myths where crows bestowed their inner light upon humanity, delving into darkness to find life. This legend serves as the foundation for the design, with the light symbolizing the absence of darkness and the crows representing the rebirth of light in a modern and minimalistic form.
What sets Fiction apart is its dual nature - the form of the light itself and the story it tells. The cylindrical base, made of intertwined wooden pieces, mimics the shape of a tree trunk and branches, creating a visually striking and flexible structure. The light emanating from within the orbs and filtering through the base's intricate design evokes the warm glow of sunlight filtering through a forest.
The crows, crafted from a light metal structure surrounded by recycled wood particles and glue, add a touch of elegance and mystery to the design. Their origami-like form and matte black color create a stark contrast against the warm glow of the light, further enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal.
Technologically, Fiction utilizes low-consumption LED lights that emit a soft and warm glow, reminiscent of natural sunlight. Each light is equipped with a touch switch, allowing users to adjust the intensity according to their preference. The spheres, made of recyclable paper, are formed through a process of water vapor and fixed by drying, adding a delicate texture to the overall design.
One of the remarkable aspects of Fiction is its interactive nature. Users can freely move the light balls and change their positions, creating different angles and intensities of light. This interaction not only allows for customization but also encourages users to engage with the design and contemplate the relationship between the crows and the light.
Throughout the design process, Baharikhahi and Mahmoudi focused on creating a product that goes beyond functionality. They aimed to transport users to a moment of tranquility and reflection, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. By incorporating elements of nature, storytelling, and interactive design, Fiction succeeds in creating a unique and captivating lighting experience.
With its minimalist form, natural materials, and enchanting narrative, Fiction is a versatile lighting fixture suitable for various settings, including special restaurants, living rooms, and more. It has garnered recognition for its innovative design, winning the Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures category in 2022. This prestigious accolade acknowledges Fiction's practicality, innovation, and ability to meet professional and industrial requirements.
Experience the magic of Fiction and let its captivating light and storytelling transport you to a world where imagination and nature intertwine.
